In one sentence: some links on Ventureora earn us a commission if you buy through them, it costs you nothing extra, and it has no effect whatsoever on what we recommend.
What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link is an ordinary link to a retailer with a tracking code attached. If you follow one and buy something, the retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale. You pay the same price you would have paid going there directly. There is no surcharge, no markup and no difference to your rights as a customer, because your purchase is with the retailer, not with us.
Amazon Associates
Ventureora is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
We also participate in Amazon’s associates programmes for other storefronts, and depending on where you are reading from, a link may take you to any of them:
- United States: Amazon.com, through the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program.
- United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy and Spain: Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.it and Amazon.es, through the Amazon EU Associates Programme. Why we tell you this
United States Federal Trade Commission guidance on endorsements and testimonials requires publishers to disclose material connections to the products they write about, clearly and close to the recommendation. Similar rules apply in the UK, the EU and elsewhere. We agree with the principle, so our disclosure is on this page, in the site footer, and on every page that carries affiliate links.
What commission does not buy
This is the part that matters, so we will be specific. Commission does not buy:
- a place in a roundup, or a higher position in one;
- a better score, a badge, or a “best overall” label;
- the removal or softening of a criticism;
- the exclusion of a competing product;
- any influence over which products enter our specification database.
Commission rates vary between products and categories, and sometimes the product we recommend pays us less than the one we did not. Our guides are written from the specification data and, where we have tested, from what happened when we used the thing. Nobody writing them works from a commission table.
When a product has no affiliate link
If the best product for a job has no affiliate programme, we still recommend it, and we still link to it. If we cannot link to it at all, we name it anyway and tell you where to look.
Free samples
Brands sometimes send products for testing. We do not pay for the privilege of receiving them and they do not pay for the privilege of being tested. A sample earns a brand nothing except an honest review, and every review of a sampled product says on the page that it was supplied. Nothing is ever returned in a condition that flatters it.
Advertising
Affiliate commission is not the only way this site is funded. We also carry display advertising. The separation between advertising money and editorial judgement is set out in our Editorial and Advertising Policy.
Your privacy
Affiliate tracking uses cookies set by the retailer on the retailer’s own domain, under the retailer’s privacy policy. We receive commission reports showing that an order happened and what it was worth. We never receive your name, your address or your payment details.
